The secret with Your Dog Training Problems
Whether you are new to dog training or a veteran of many dogs the reality is that you are going to run into problems when training your dog. It is important that you understand how to troubleshoot problems when training your dog.
There is a three part troubleshooting program that I use when working with my clients in my Salt Lake City dog training business. Whenever my clients are not achieving perfect results it is always caused by one of three things:
1- Tools: Are you using the right training tools with your dog. Do you have the right dog training collar, the right leashes, etc.? Is your dog wearing the training equipment so that you are in a position to communicate with your dog when needed?
2- Techniques: Are the techniques you are using effective? If a technique is effective you should be able to see some results to that effect rather quickly. It takes time to train a dog but you should be able to determine within minutes if a technique is working with your dog. If your techniques are faulty you won't have any success in training your dog.
3- Consistency: Consistency is the killer of home dog trainers. Changing the behavior of an animal is not easy. It requires that you use the right tools and the correct techniques with enough consistency that you bring about a behavioral change.
If your dog is not doing what you think he should be doing examine what it is that you are doing wrong and you will be able to correct the issues.

welcome to dog training secrets
Fundamentally, dog training is about communication. From the human perspective, the handler is communicating to the dog what behaviors are correct, desired, or preferred in what circumstances and what behaviours are undesirable. From the canine perspective the handler must learn what motivates the dog if optimal results are desired.
A handler must understand communication from the dog. The dog can signal that he is unsure, confused, nervous, happy, excited, and so on. The emotional state of the dog is an important consideration in directing the training, as a dog that is stressed or distracted will not learn efficiently.
According to Learning Theory there are four important messages that the handler can send the dog:
- Reward or release marker
- Correct behavior. You have earned a reward.
- Keep going signal
- Correct behavior. Continue and you will earn a reward.
- No reward marker
- Incorrect behavior. Try something else.
- Punishment marker
- Incorrect behavior. You have earned punishment.
Using consistent signals or words for these messages enables the dog to understand them more quickly.
